Solid wood breathes. It expands and contracts with humidity, which is why we build floating joinery into our tabletops. Your job is to keep humidity between 40–55% and to avoid extreme swings.
Clean with a barely damp microfiber cloth — never soaking wet, never detergents. For oiled finishes, re-apply a food-safe oil every six to twelve months. For lacquers, simply dust.
Use coasters and trivets; hot dishes can cloud any finish. And keep tables out of direct, prolonged sunlight, which fades and greys wood unevenly.
If a scratch appears, embrace it — or spend ten minutes with fine-grit paper and a matching stain. Oiled wood is endlessly renewable.
